Good morning! Today is one of the days that I go into work later than usual and there is nothing that I love more!…well, maybe I love days off more but, for now, I’ll take a half-day!
My favorite part of going into work late is being able to wake up, relax with my breakfast a cup of coffee, and watch some daytime TV. Sometimes, I try to get in a quick workout before work but I usually just use this time to enjoy my mornings! This morning, i enjoyed a bowl of Frosted Mini-Wheats as I caught up on some news…
So, if you read my blog, you know that yesterday I shared my recap from the half marathon that I ran last weekend. At the end of the post, I said that my only thought was ‘when am I going to run my next one?’ Well, soon after the race was finished, we (myself, Lee’s cousin, Shane, and Shane’s FIL) started talking about upcoming races and which ones we would like to run. After checking out some of the specs, we decided on running the Outer Banks Half Marathon which takes place in November. Shane lives close to the Outer Banks so we will travel to his house and then all travel together to the Outer Banks and make a weekend out of it. I’m so excited!
Besides being excited for running the race, I’m excited because Lee is going to attempt to run it with us! I mentioned yesterday that the last time he ran, he had a really hard time recovering because of his asthma and decided that putting running on the back burner was the best option for him. We had previously run a few 5Ks and a 10K together with no problem but after his last scare, he didn’t want to push it. However, he has been feeling well and wants to get back into training to see how he does. The past few days, we have been doing small runs together to gauge how his lungs will hold up and he has been doing well. We started small with two-mile runs and, while he knows he has a lot of training ahead of him, he has been optimistic about how his body has handled getting back into running!
I am so happy that he is going to take on the half with us! I love when we are able to do things together and I know we will push each other through our training. Even though I just ran a half, I am notorious for not sticking to training plans, so I’m hoping that Lee can push me to keep getting my runs in, which will only make me stronger for the next one. I am going to try and stick with my goal time of finishing in under two hours and I’m hoping that the weather will be a bit more cooperative than it was last weekend!
On a sad note…one of my best friends, Carla, who I have known since high school and was my roommate in college, lost her father this past weekend. I was extremely close to their family and, honestly, have never met a man that loved his family more her dad. His entire life centered around his wife and children and he would always say that he was ‘the richest man in the world’ because of his amazing family. We will say goodbye to him today and tomorrow and am asking for your thoughts, prayers, and good vibes, which will definitely be needed during the difficult time. Thank you so much, friends!
Enjoy your Tuesday and please tell the people most important to you that you love them!
With much Love and Laughter,
Something to share: Have you ever taken a break from running? How did you decide to get back into it?
