Hello Friends!
Is everyone having a great Sunday so far? The weather is absolutely beautiful here today, which is a nice change since it has been dreary and rainy for the past week. Sun just instantly lifts my spirits!
I’ve been pretty busy since the end of last week with work. We are in the process of opening a new office (which is where I’ll be working) and we have been having major issues getting our phones and computers up and running! We have tried two different times to coordinate everyone together so things can be in working order, however, it just is not working out for us. For some reason, the cable company, phone company, and our personal computer and phone guys just can’t get on the same page. We are opening in a week and a half so we have this week ahead of us to try and get things completed. Fingers crossed!
Okay…enough about work.
In more exciting news…..I PR’d my 5K YESTERDAY!
I was on the fence about whether I was going to run the race. I ran the same one last year and I did it with my bestie, Christa, and Lee. We had a great time and actually all PR’d because we kept each other’s pace so fast. However, this year, neither Christa or Lee could run the race with me so I was going to have to do it alone if I decided I wanted to do it.
I got my clothes ready the night before, set my alarm, and figured I would just see how I felt when I woke up. My alarm went off and I felt great! It was overcast and cool and I coudn’t pass up that perfect running weather!
On a side note…I’m not sure when I became so brave. Rewind a couple of years (and throughout my entire life), I would have never even imagined doing anything like running a race on my own. I am always so nervous to be new situations by myself for fear that I would be confused or not know what to do or make an idiot out of myself. I can now say I’ve completed two races solely on my own. I guess that’s called ‘growing up’!!!
Anyway, I paid my fee, grabbed my t-shirt, and got ready to run. I knew the course from last year and knew it was hilly so I tried to prepare myself for that. When we were at the starting line, I swear I heard the race MC say, “1 minute to go!” I was turning on my music when all of a sudden I hear, “Ready, Set, GO!!!” Apparently, she meant ‘one second’ instead of ‘one minute’. It startled me so I just took off running! I was flying! I did my first mile in about seven minutes, which is crazy fast for me. I knew I had to slow down because I would lose steam on the hills, so I calmed down and settled into a good pace.
I knew I was running faster than normal, but I felt good so I kept it up and….
I finished at 25:23!!! A personal best!!
In addition to running my fastest 5K, I also placed second in my age group!!
Since the race took place in a college town, I’ll just assume that the young girls that were running were probably hung over from being out and having a life the night before, whereas, I was in bed at a reasonable hour preparing for the race.
I’m so glad that I decided to run when I woke up! You know what they say…
You never regret a workout!!
I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
When is the last time you pushed yourself through a workout and felt great after?
