Happy Monday, Friends!
I usually am not a big fan of Mondays, however, I am feeling okay about this one. Today is the day that the temperature is going to drop around here. Now, by drop, I mean it’s going to dip down into the low 80’s. That definitely does not sound cool, but since we have been having temps that have been close to 100. the lower temperature will feel like a deep freeze! I normally don’t mind hot weather, but I really need to cut the grass and weed my flower beds…and when it’s 100 outside, you won’t catch me anywhere but in the cool AC.
Well…sometimes I venture out of the AC….
….like when my parents insist on going for a bike ride, even though I have reminded them a million times how hot it was supposed to be.
I stopped at my parent’s house on the way home from work on Friday and they weren’t home, so I left them the note that I always leave them -
Dear Family,
I was here.
You were not.
Call me later.
Love, Kelly
However, this time, I added something extra -
P.S. FYI: If you are still planning on riding bikes, it’s going to be 100 degrees tomorrow. Just so ya know.
Needless to say, my parents didn’t change their mind and showed up at my house bright and early Saturday morning. I taught a 7:45am Jazzercise class and then rushed home to meet my parents. We were planning on biking on the trail that is near my house. I usually use it for my long runs and it’s a great trail for biking. My dad threw my bike in the back of the truck and we were off!
Even though it was super hot outside, the ride was great because the trail we were on goes through the woods and was mostly shaded the entire time. We kept a steady pace and completed 6.5 miles before deciding we were ready for lunch.
Right next to the trail is a cute little bed and breakfast that includes a little shop and a café. Of all of the times I have run or biked on the trail, I had never stopped in, so my parents and I decided to check it out.
Can I just say….cutest place ever!! They had a ton of crafts, home décor, homemade items, and great looking sandwiches in the café. I think I found I new favorite place! Now, I see myself working out on the trail even more so I can stop in!
On the way back home, we stopped by a local farm so my dad could pick up some produce. I grabbed a bouquet of beautiful flowers and we called it a day.
Yesterday, my parents and I went antiquing and spent the morning scouring through other people’s junk treasures. I found a few antique brooches and a couple of coffee table books. After the morning spent with my parents, I headed home to meet Lee when he got home from work and we went to visit Josh…who is now walking and talking. We can truly say that we have witnessed a miracle our lifetime. Doctor’s did not have a good prognosis for him and he has defied every odd and has proven every doctor wrong. He is just simply amazing!
We spent the evening with him and then came home to crash out, which is exactly what I did. The hot temps just wear me out!
Today, I’m back to old grind….even though I really can’t say the ‘old grind’ because I love my new job and actually look forward to going to it!
As always, I’m really thankful for everything right now. I’m thankful I have parents I can spend time with, I’m thankful for our friend, Josh, and I’m thankful I can say I enjoy my job. Life is good.
Enjoy your Monday!!!
How do you modify workouts when it’s hot? Move them inside? Start super early?
Do you have any good news to share? Anything you’re thankful for?

first I LOVE LOVE LOVE the time you spend with your parents.
dvds, playing with my daughter—anything NOT outside.
I wish mine lived closer.
and me? summer in texas? I HIT THE INDOORS
I wimpy like that.
Oh, what fun! I’d like to get my bike out again. I usually modify my workouts by slowing down, taking walks and making sure to get plenty of water. A lot of my workouts are done indoors, so H2O and AC are my go-to’s on hot days. Wishing you a great Monday!
