Takin’ a Day Off

Morning Friends!  :D (I’m pretty sure I start out every post the same with that greeting)

Happy Thursday to you!  It will definitely be a happy Thursday around here because Lee and I are both off of work today!  Even though I only have a little over a week of work left at my current job, I decided to use one more vacation day to spend some time at home.  Thursdays are pretty slow at work, so things should be fine.  I always stress when I take off because I don’t want to stick anyone with extra work…

…Note to self: the office ran before you were there…it will run after you are gone
(I worry about waaaay too much)

The main reason I took the day off was that, since Lee is off too, we are going to spend some time at the hospital with our friend who is still recovering from his accident.  Recently, we have been playing the waiting game and waiting for him to wake up from his coma.  On Tuesday, we got the wonderful news that he had started to open his eyes and, yesterday, he started to slightly move his arm and leg!!  Obviously, he still has a long and uncertain road ahead of him, but these small steps are giant leaps in his recovery!

We try to be there as much as we can just to let him know that we are there to support him and that we are fighting just as hard for him on this side.  Last night, we went to visit him after work and the longer we were there, the more people crammed into his room.  It’s such a great feeling to know how many people are there to support him.

We spent a few hours at the hospital and then left to grab some dinner with our friends, Bridget and BJ.  We went to a restaurant that was near the hospital called The Boulevard.  There were so many great options on the menu and I had such a hard time deciding what to get!

I finally chose the Dipping Platter and it did not disappoint!

The platter came with red pepper hummus, spinach-artichoke dip, and guacamole with fresh pita chips, tortilla chips, cucumbers, and celery for dipping.  I think I said it was the ‘best thing I had ever eaten’ multiple times during dinner.  I also threw in a Blue Moon on the side.  Wonderful!

After dinner, we each went our separate ways and we headed home.  We let the dogs run around for a little bit and then I crashed out in bed pretty early.  I was exhausted for some reason!

This morning, I woke up way too early and made myself fall back to sleep since i wasn’t going to work and ended up sleeping in longer than I would have liked.  Oh well.  The fact I slept in probably means that I needed it.

When I finally got out of bed, I let the dogs run around outside while I potted some flowers that I bought a few days ago.  Now…if I can only remember to water them.

After my sleeping beauty wakes up, we will probably go to the grocery story (our cupboards are pretty bare), get a quick run in, and head up to the hospital.  I have to teach two Jazzercise classes this evening, so we will have a pretty jam-packed day.

Speaking of getting a quick run in…

…there is a local marathon/half-marathon happening in our area in November.  Lee has decided that he wants to train for the half.  I have partially decided that I want to train for the full.  The full!?  I can’t even believe I just said those words.

I figured since I just trained for a half, I could just continue my training and work on the full.  I have our training schedules all worked out on the little calendar above (that I spent way too much time on at work!) and we shall see where the training journey takes us.  I’m excited and scared, but hey…

…life is boring if you don’t challenge yourself, right!?

Do you use vacation days at work or are you like me and feel bad about taking days off?

training for a full? congrats! some day I hope to train for a half. considering I get bored after a mile, I think I have a ways to go.

  2. Vacation days are near and dear to my heart. I hate asking to take them, but I always use them up every year. And that’s great news about your friend. I hope the improvements keep coming!

  3. I hope that your friend recovers fully from his accident. I’m happy to hear that he is making small steps toward recovery.

I think if you really want to do the full, you should commit. Sign up now. It will help with your motivation and your training. Good luck with your training.

Woohoo for training for a full! I’m running my first full in January – and I’m scared, excited, nervous and about 136 other emotions :) I’m excited to follow your journey!

  5. How exciting that you are thinking about the full marathon – go for it!! If you have good half marathon training, the leap to the full isn’t as bad as it sounds and it’s so much fun!

I’m running my first full this year too! Not gonna lie, hitting “register” on the Chicago Marathon website kind of made me want to puke a little bit but now that the idea has settled in and I’ve started training this week, I’m getting excited to see what this will be like for me — it’s gonna be a wild ride!! Let’s do this! :)

  7. That dipping platter looks AMAZING!
