Monday Motivation

Here we are again.  It’s Monday.

However, no case of the Mondays over here today!  This is always one of my favorite weeks!  We have Thanksgiving, my birthday, and it’s the official start of the holiday season!  I have already gone into holiday mode and I’m excited to actually be able to get out my decorations on Friday!

Yesterday, was a fabulously lazy Sunday.  It pretty much consisted of three things.

1.  Food
2.  Football
3.  Naps

It was a pretty low blood pressure type of day since the Steelers didn’t play this week.  There was really nothing to get worked up over, so lounging and dozing off and on seemed to be the thing to do.  For dinner, we simply had spaghetti.  Spaghetti with my grandma’s sauce is a dish that makes an appearance in our house quite often.  Nothing beats her sauce.

I added some ground turkey to the sauce and paired it with a piece of Texas toast.  Yummy Sunday dinner!

A little while after dinner, I made us a little spread for the night game.  Chips, pepperoni, and cheese with French onion dip and spicy mustard for dipping.

I couldn’t have imagined a better Sunday!

Now…let’s talk motivation!

As I mentioned, this week kicks off a pretty busy time for all of us.  The holidays, darker days, and colder weather are already here or quickly approaching!  During this time of the year, I find myself needing extra motivation to get through my workouts outside of teaching my Jazzercise classes.  In the summer and early fall, I love being outside and there is nothing better than starting off the day with an early morning run, however, as the weather gets colder, I tend to think that there is nothing better than starting off the day with an extra cuddle with my warm blankets.

Get reacquainted with the treadmill.   I know a lot of us hate using the dreadmill, however it can be a great way to freshen up regular runs!  Getting creative with speed or incline work and interval training can make for an exciting indoor workout.

Focus on strength training.  Strength training is something we can all do and it uses minimal equipment and space.  Dumbbells, resistance bands, and medicine balls are great to use in the comfort of your own living room when those temps drop and the snow is flying!

Try a new fitness class.  Winter is the perfect time to try out a new fitness class!  Never tried yoga?  Always wanted to go to spin?  How about Zumba and Jazzercise?  Not only does a new class give you a variety in your workout, but it also gives you an opportunity to meet other class goers and potential workout partners!

Participate in winter activities.  Finally, just because the temperatures are dropping, that doesn’t mean that you have to totally take your workouts inside!  Try a new winter sport like skiing or snowboarding or just go out and go ice skating as a way to have fun and sneak in some cardio and killer leg work!

I hope you all have a great Monday and try something new in your workouts!  :-D

How do you keep up your workout mojo when the weather turns cold?
Have you tried a new fitness class or workout recently?

First I am waiting for it to be cold. I am so sick of sweating!! This morning at 6:30am the weather was 75 degrees with 88% humidity. ICK. It is going to be purely disgusting by this afternoon.

  2. Happy early birthday to a fellow November baby :-D !!!!

Your Sunday sounds like my definition of a perfect day except we have to substitute hockey for football…after all, I am Canadian eh?! LOL

  3. I’m with you on switching up the exercise! Except here in south Florida, it’s time to move outside for runs instead of moving inside. :D

NOTHING beats Grandma’s sauce :) I find it hard to keep up my mojo. I was always a swimmer until this year, so I was forced to go to practice. I am having a hard time motivating myself now that I don’t have a coach standing over my back!

I just sent the check for our snowboarding trip at the end of Jan! I am beyond excited! I’m a newb in that I just learned earlier this year, but I cannot wait to get back out and get better! :)

  6. That does sound like a great Sunday, Kelly! I could use a nap :)
I totally revamp my workout style in the winter. I’m a wuss and can’t run when it’s below 40 degrees :-P

  7. I NEED some winter motivation. I kind of go into hibernation!
