Citizen’s 5K Run

Hello Hello Everyone!  I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday so far!  :-D

I started mine out with the Citizen’s 5K Run that took place in Indiana, PA, which is the town where Lee works.  I asked my bestie, Christa, to run with us and she said yes!  I’m really glad that she decided to!  We had a lot of fun!

We were numbers 578, 579, and 580.

While everyone pinned their numbers on…

…I stretched it out.

I don’t really stretch like that.  I was just being a goofball!  We had some time until the race so we just hung out in the parking lot of the police department (we were able to park there because we have special privileges.  P.S. Not really) and talked to some of Lee’s fellow officers.

(taking pictures directly facing the sun = goofy squinty faces)

The race started at 9AM and I was ready when they said GO!  I was excited to run and I had my two favorite people with me!  For days before the race, Christa kept telling me that she was a slow runner so if I needed to pass her I could.  I had no intention of doing that because I wanted us to just have fun and all run together.

Well, let me tell you.  Christa is not a slow runner!  If it wasn’t for her, I think I would have run slower than I did!  The first half of the course was along the streets in town and through the Indiana University of PA campus.  It was a nice run!  The second half of the race, unbeknownst to us, was entirely uphill!  We did one half mile around a track and that was about the only flat part!

The hills plus the fact that I didn’t drink anything before the race (I KNOW!!! I’M AN IDIOT!) made my legs feel like lead!  It is safe to say that I felt 1000 times better when I was running my half marathon than when I was running today!  However, just when I thought I couldn’t handle my dry mouth anymore, I saw the red numbers of the finish line!  I have never been so happy!  We all crossed the finish line together!  :-D

After the race, I devoured a bagel and some water at a store called GingerbreadMan Running Co.  They were one of the sponsors of the race.  It’s a great store that specializes in running (obviously) and carries everything any runner would ever need!

Luckily, they don’t mind having sweaty messes in their store!

We hung around and waited for the results…

Christa won 3rd place in our age group!!!

Lee and I both took 4th in our respective age groups!  Our final times were:

Christa – 26:05
Me – 26:06
Lee – 26:06

What an awesome morning!  I love races and I love them even more when I run them with my favorite people!

Do you prefer to run alone or with others?

    Hi!

I went to school at IUP! My bff still lives in Indiana and has been raving about Gingerbread Running store. I wish I had been into running when I was there because those hills would make for some killer calves. I remember getting out of breathe just walking around campus. Excellent job on the run and congrats on 4th place! :)

  2. Great run Kelly!

I don’t like running with others. Sometimes I will run a race with a friend.. but once the gun goes off.. we go out separate ways. I don’t like having the pressure of worrying if I am going to fast for the other person.. or worst .. holding them back!

I want to try to start at least training with other people. It can get lonely on those long run!

I worry, too, if I am holding a person back or making them run too fast. Lee and I have a good pace together, but it’s because we train together all of the time and average about the same speed. I can definitely say, though, that he keeps me going because I run a lot slower when I’m alone!

  3. What a great time girl and you look gorgeous!

  4. I love running races with others! It’s so motivating and it’s fun to have someone right next to you pushing you along. Great job with the race!

GOOD JOB Kelly! You are such a rockstar!!

  6. You totally rocked that 5K! I love when you go into something not planning to go fast and you just feel like you’re on fire and end up with a PR. That was how my 5K in Mar was and I also placed 4th in my age group. :) Way to go!

Thanks! I was just concerned about having fun and not stressing…then apparently we felt the need to run our fastest ever! Haha! I love when that happens!

Awesome job Kelly! I do not know if I like running with others, though I would be nervouse of holding someone back…or wanting to talk & that would kind of ruin the whole point of the race…which I have never run a race as of yet-I am working on that. I do love to run with Zicke the big dog…he keeps me on pace & will not let me quit, he is always ready to go no matter what the weather is. Keep up the good work, you are a beautiful person!

    • Kelly says:

Aww you are seriously the best! Zicke is also the best! He does a good job of keeping you going…you know he can only sit still for so long!

  8. Lora says:

You guys are awesome! I aspire to be as fast as you & Christa some day. =) It’s so awesome that you girls are still BFFs.

    • Kelly says:

I have NO idea how I ran that fast! I think we were both afraid we were running too slow for each other so we were flying!
I guess Saint Paul friendships last a lifetime! LOL!
