The Police Officer Turns the Big 3-1!

Good morning everyone!  Did you all wake up super early this morning to catch some of the Royal Wedding?  I set my alarm and figured that I would see how I felt when it went off and decide then if I wanted to get up or not.  I swear I couldn’t sleep!  I kept waking up and checking the clock because I was afraid I overslept!  What  was this!? My wedding!?  Geez!

I eventually heard my actual alarm go off and I clearly decided that there was no decision as to whether I was getting up or not.  I threw on my robe, grabbed a blanket, and headed downstairs (our bedroom TV had a power surge from a storm on Tuesday so it’s out of commisson.  Sigh.).  Jet followed closely behind…I knew he secretly wanted to watch it!  Then…to my surprise…Lee came downstairs too!  I asked him what he was doing and he mumbled, “Well, you wanted me to watch this with you, didn’t you?”  He is the absolute BEST!!!

I totally think this should be a holiday or something…because I wasn’t even worried about getting to work on time.  I am here now…with no makeup on (yikes)…because I got in the shower fifteen minutes before I had to leave.  I just didn’t want to get off of the couch!  I had to listen to the kiss happen on the radio!  Ugh!  Regardless, I think it was one of the most magical and exciting things I have ever seen happen.  I know some people might think that’s crazy, but I just think it’s a huge part of history that I can say I witnessed.

Alright…now let me talk about the real reason for this post…Lee had a birthday yesterday!  Thursdays are my long days and he had to work until 11PM, so we weren’t thinking that we were going to be able to do anything to celebrate on his actual birthday.  However, I switched my last Jazzercise class with another instructor and Lee used some hours he had saved up to leave work early!  Early = 8:30PM.  He didn’t get home until 9, but we got to squeeze in a birthday dinner.

We ended up going to Ruby Tuesdays.  We really had no other option than to go to a chain because we had to find a place that was open until at least 11PM.  This isn’t NYC and it was hard!  Anyway, I swear we had the entire restaurant to ourselves after those two couples behind Lee left.

Birthday Boy!

Rushing home from Jazzercise = Hat to hide my sweaty hair

We started with a couple of birthday drinks.  Lee got a mudslide?  SO random…but hey, it was his birthday, so anything goes!

I went with a Skinny Pink Lemonade.  Best.Thing.Ever

For an appetizer, we had cheesy-garlic biscuits and cheese sticks.  Clearly, we don’t steer clear of cheese.  We welcome it with open arms.

Lee was trying to make my pictures artsy by draping the cheese over the sauce. He's such a good helper.

For dinner, Lee ordered chicken parmesan penne…with the marinara on the side.  It had a Parmesan cream sauce and he didn’t think the marinara would mix well with it.  I had to agree.  It was a good decision.

I originally ordered a dish called Chicken Bella.  It was a grilled chicken breast with a portobello mushroom and artichoke mixture on top of it.  Sounds delish, right?  Well, when I ordered it, the waitress said, “Great choice!” and then quickly followed it up with, “Oh my gosh…I forgot…we are all out of chicken breasts.  I know that sounds ridiculous, but we are.” Okaaaaay.  Does anyone else feel like the one thing you want is always the one thing they are out of!?  So…I ordered blackened tilapia with mango salsa and paired it with grilled zucchini and tomatoes with balsamic for sides.

I was really happy with my choice, however, I always forget that when something is blackened, it is usually way too hot for me!  I don’t know what it is!  I can eat jalapenos and hot sauce but something about blackened fish just makes me cry!  I drank three glasses of water and didn’t even end up finishing it.  Don’t worry…next time there is blackened fish on the menu, I will order it and complain about the same thing!  My zucchini and tomatoes were amazing, though!

I had a surprise waiting for Lee when we got home.

ICE CREAM CAKE!

(I kind of wish I would have just written “Happy Birthday Lee” on my own…it looks kind of messy to me.  Lee, of course, saw nothing wrong with it so I guess that’s all that matters.)

Okay…so get ready for some hilarity!  I forgot to buy candles.  All I had were the candles from his thirtieth birthday…the big ’3′ and the big ’0′.  I was going to break the ’0′ in half and try to make something that looked like a ’1′, but that wasn’t working.  I was just going to use the ’3′ to symbolize his third decade or something, but the wick was too little and it wouldn’t light.  So…my last option…just use the ’0′.

It’s a good thing that Lee loves me (or at least I think he still does).  “I’m sorry that we have to celebrate you turning zero.”  :-(

Once the candle was blown out and the wishes were made, the candle didn’t matter anymore.  All that mattered was that we were chowing down on vanilla and chocolate ice cream with fudge and cookie filling.  Yummy!

Lee’ s gift is still “to be determined.”  He wants things like a new headlight for his Harley or a new gun?  Um…I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t want me picking out either of those things, so….I just told him I’ll pay for whatever he wants to pick out.  It would definitely be a better gift to him for me not to pick those things out on my own!

Overall, I think he had a pretty good birthday.  He is actually off for the next four days, so I imagine we will continue to celebrate through the weekend.  His weekends off are very few and far between, so we really enjoy them when he actually gets one!

I hope you all have an amazing Friday!  The weekend is almost here!!!  Thank goodness!
Love you guys!  Talk to ya later!  :-)

  1. Yay so glad Lee had a wonderful birthday and you were to celebrate it with him :D Ruby Tuesdays is a fun place with yummy food, his chicken parm looks amazing and I definitely want some that skinny pink lemonade! I’m one to welcome cheese with open arms too ;)
I love how he draped the cheese over the sauce. My bf does the same thing by helping me make pretty dishes. He’ll clean off the sides of the plate and decorate it with pretty sauces haha He’s my little blog helper :D
Mmm that ice cream cake looks delicious! I love the nilla and chocolate combo, it’s been awhile since I’ve had one of those. I wouldn’t have noticed that big 0 with that cake in front of me :P

  2. Happy Birthday Lee!! The 30s are the best decade if you ask me.

I love the look of your Skinny Pink Lemonade – yum yum!! Definitely a drink for the patio this summer. And ice cream cake — my absolute fave!

Have a great weekend – I am a firm believer that birthdays should be celebrated for days and days, not just one day. You only turn 31 once after all :-)

  3. That looks like a lovely birthday dinner :)

the zero is too funny, you should do that every year as a tradition and then he’ll never age! :)

Hope you two have a lovely weekend! :)

  4. Happy 31st to Lee! Glad he was ableto get out of work a tiny bit early so you and he could celebrate! :)
The blackened tilapia sounds great! I have recently been eating more fish then I used to (aka just salmon) and tilapia is one of my new favorites.

I am also and die-hard ice cream cake fan! LOVE the crunchies in the middle! Growing up, my best friend was allergic to chocolate – so at birthday parties, I would get her crunchies too. SCORE!

  5. awwww the cake is super cute! <3 Happy birthday to your man!!! =)

Happy 31st to Lee! It looks like a fun night out! Nothing wrong with Ruby Tuesday!! The important thing is that you two got to celebrate a special event! And props to Lee for watching the Royal Wedding with you!!

  7. Haha I love the 0. Hey sometimes you have to be resourceful and creative. One year for my sisters birthday we forgot candles so we ended up shoving one of those giant prayer candles that have saints on them in the middle of her cake. Well I’m glad you guys were able to find sometime to go out and celebrate.
